Providence Gridiron announces outstanding awards

The Providence Gridiron Club is preparing for its big spring shindig, The Annual Awards Night, with a preliminary release of the selections for Players of the Year in the six different Football playing Divisions. Also being announced is the winner of the Larry P. Gallogly Humanitarian Award.

This year’s Player of the Year Awards go to, as follows:

Division 1A - Lineman - Xavier Truss, Bishop Hendricken; Back- Will Such, Cranston West; Coach of the Year - Eric Anderson, South Kingstown.

Division 1B - Lineman - Dante Delbonis, LaSalle Academy; Back-Jake Ribeiro, LaSalle Academy; Coach - Geoff Marcone, LaSalle Academy.

Division 2A - Lineman- Michael Walsh, Moses Brown; Back- Max Davis, Westerly; Coach- Peter Queweay, Mount Pleasant.

Division 2B - Lineman - Dylan Poirier, North Kingstown; Back - Joe Gilmartin Jr., North Kings- town; Coach - Joe Gilmartin Sr., North Kingstown.

Division 3A - Lineman- Greg Salvatore, Lincoln; Back- Elijah Matthews, Juanita Sanchez/PCD/ Wheeler; Coach- Sean Cavanaugh, Lincoln.

Division 3B- Lineman- Brandon Dichairo-Burrillville; Back- Jake Gelinas, Burrillville; Coach- Jeff Lapierre, Central Falls.

Also announced was the Lawrence P. Gallogly Humanitarian Award winner. This year the winner is Bill McCagney, the outstanding coach from Barrington High School, now retired, who was an outstanding player at URI and guided the Eagles to a couple of D-1 State titles.

To be announced the night of the banquet, which will be held April 4 at 6 p.m. at the Quonset “O” Club, will be the winners of the Frank E. Morey Lineman of the Year Award; the Francis “Monk” Maznicki Back of the Year Trophy and the Jack Cronin Coach of the Year Award, along with the Gilbane Trophy to the Outstanding Football Player in Rhode Island. Outstanding players from the four football playing universities in Rhode Island (URI, Brown, Bryant, Salve Regina ) will also be honored.

Also, the Providence Gridiron Club announces that Washington Trust Company has agreed to sign on as a sponsor of PGC events for the upcoming years. Their involvement along with other events planned by the Club will help them reach new heights as they continue to promote football in Rhode Island and, more importantly, Rhode Island football players on all levels.
