Providence Roller Derby Presents: The Mob Squad vs The Sakonnet River Roller Rats

Posted

The Sakonnet River Roller Rats fully intend to claw their way to the top, giving reigning champs The Mob Squad a run for their money in this exciting, full contact, intense bout. Warwick comes alive when 28 of Providence Roller Derby's own skaters lace up and take to the track.

Led by co-captains Oakley and Scarizard, The Rats are scrappy and out for blood. Veteran skater and crowd favorite Craisy Dukes, is a jammer/blocker double threat and a force to be reckoned with on the track. Her tight stops and quick direction changes make her a serious contender.

This season, The Rats welcome feisty newcomers She-3PO and Hellderly Spinster to the pack. Another talented addition to the team, Freak N Awesome, formerly a skater for the Mob Squad, has got the insider info and she's ready to dish.

Last year's champions, The Mob Squad, led by captain and veteran skater, Smashley Olsen, aren't giving up their title without a fight, and they fight dirty.

The Mob lineup includes a scary group of henchwomen that includes jammer/killer, Boones Harm. Boones is 100 percent committed to every jam. She is not one to let her fellow teammates down. When she goes on the offense she becomes a jammer’s dream. She is as valuable to the Mob as a cannoli and Chianti is to a mobster. The two just go together.

Another extremely Mob-loyal skater is #44, Fuhgeddaboudit. She can be found putting a stop to any skater who gets in her team's way. Solid and experienced, you don't want to find yourself on her hit list.

Let's not forget to mention Goldie Glocks. Don't expect her to put on the brakes. She is as graceful as a gazelle but fast as a jaguar and just as vicious. She doesn't need a Tommy gun, she gets it done.

Revenge is the name of the game with the Mob, so the Rats better not half step. Don't take this at face value, get out and see for yourself this wonderful spectacle called roller derby. You won't be disappointed.

After the bout, game faces rearrange into “Let's Party” faces. Join the skaters and magnificent support staff as they get their groove on and enjoy some food and beverage.

The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 12 at William H. Thayer Arena, 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Doors open at 6 p.m., whistle at 6:30 p.m. Adult presale for $10, $15 at door, kids (5-12) for $5, kids under 5 for free. Bleacher seats available; bring a chair for track-side seating. Beer and wine will be available to those aged 21 and older. New merchandise will be up for sale. There will also be 50/50 raffle.
