Purple donuts for 'the longest day'

Posted

On Friday, June 21, PVD Donuts, located at 79 Ives Street, Providence, will feature purple donuts to help support “The Longest Day” fundraiser of the Alzheimer’s Association Rhode island Chapter as well as to create awareness as part of Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. Purple is the color used by the Alzheimer Association in its promotions.

“We’ve always known that there were fundraisers and people trying to make a difference,” said Paul Kettle, owner of PVDonuts. “We never even thought about using other mediums [i.e. art] as a means of raising awareness. We decided to use our business – when able to – as a means of contributing to non-profits, charities and causes that we are passionate about.”

The Longest Day is a celebration of the Summer Solstice – the day with the most light – on June 21. People participate in an activity while raising funds and awareness to help end the darkness of Alzheimer’s disease.

PVDonuts will be donating the proceeds from the purple donut purchases with a 100 percent match.

When asked why he chose to become involved with the Alzheimer’s Association, Kettle said he and his wife were “incredibly inspired” by the art of Rhode Island native Paul Cote and his mission to drive awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease. Both Paul and his wife have been impacted by the disease.
