Raymond F. O’Rourke
Raymond F. O’Rourke, age 91, of Audubon Road, Warwick, died on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Brentwood Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Laura M. (Shea) O’Rourke.
Born in Providence, the son of the late Frank J. and Julia L. (Ahern) O’Rourke, he lived in Warwick since 1964. Mr. O’Rourke was a 1944 graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served in Co K 158th Infantry Regiment Combat Team in Luzon, Southern Philippines. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. O’Rourke was employed at Narragansett Electric Co. in Providence for 40 years, retiring 29 years ago. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 310. Mr. O’Rourke enjoyed his time with Narragansett Electric and remained friends with many retirees through the years.
Long active in Democratic politics, he was a member of the RI State Democratic Committee, and a former member of the Warwick Ward 1 Democratic Committee, and the former District # 29 Representative Committee. He was a communicant of St. Peter Church, and a member of the former St. Peter’s Men’s club.
He was a devoted father to three sons and a daughter, Raymond J. O’Rourke and his wife Denise of Seekonk, MA; Robert F. O’Rourke, Daniel P. O’Rourke and his wife Nancy, and Mary E. O’Rourke, all of Warwick; and two granddaughters, Kerri O’Rourke and Brianna O’Rourke
His funeral will be held on Friday, July 7, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
