Richard E. Johnson, 70, of Duncan, OK, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Richard was born on March 28, 1947 to Raymond and Lily (Robinson) Johnson in Providence. He was raised in Rhode Island and was the second of nine children. Richard served in the United States Army, and then joined the Warwick Police Department, where he worked as a police officer and detective until his retirement from the force. Afterward, Richard started a successful antiques sales and repair business which he operated in the Pontiac Mills building in Warwick for a number of years. In his later years, Richard moved to Oklahoma to be closer to his family. He continued throughout his life to stay active through insurance, real estate, and security fields. In addition to being a hard worker, Rick was known to be a man of the highest integrity and faith. He loved to make people laugh, and always had a joke to brighten the day of each person he encountered. Rick’s positive spirit was an inspiration to everyone he met.

Richard is survived by his wife Suzie (Justus Lawler) Johnson of Duncan OK; his daughter-in law Theresa (Teddy) Johnson and his two grandsons Seth Johnson and Liam Johnson of Marlow OK; his four step-daughters: Mary Kolze of Atlanta GA, Debby Lambert of Festus MO, Audrey Skiles of Fenton MO, and Amy Ackermann of Duncan OK; his 12 step-grandchildren; his four brothers: Carl Johnson of Dobson NC, Samuel Johnson of Jacksonville NC, William Johnson of Hartland ME, and Daniel Johnson of Pawtucket, RI; and his three sisters: Karen Petit of Cranston RI, Margaret Brooks of Warwick RI, and Anne Csizmesia of Warwick, RI; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy (Drowne) Johnson; his only son Bruce Johnson, and his older brother Raymond Johnson Jr.

Memorial services were held at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs, Oklahoma on Monday, August 7, 2017.Graveside memorial services will also be held for Richard at the Riverside Cemetery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island at a future date.
