Rights mean nothing if they can be taken away

Open letter to Mr. Sorrentino:

I spent 32 years in my nation's military in order to help safeguard our basic human rights. The right to speak one's mind, the right to live in a safe environment and the right to differ with one another in a peaceful manner. Over the past eight years I have seen many of our rights taken away, which has led me to believe they are only privileges and, in many ways, meaningless. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to you as a fellow American and an American, I believe, of Italian descent. I spent many years of my life trying to protect this nation's citizens from the kind of anxiety you have been subjected to. Our rights are meaningless if they can be trod upon in such fashion, and your predicament has taught me a valuable lesson. Unless you want to incur the wrath of those who disagree with you, perhaps it is best to remain silent. As in 1941, Japanese Americans had all but one right taken away from them, "Step right this way into the internment camp"...rights mean nothing if they can so easily be taken away. God bless you, and I wish you a heartfelt, wonderful holiday season.

Progressive government would like you to believe that all power comes from the government, including the rights they would deign to grant you- that's why the Constitution is meaningless to them.

A heartfelt "Thank you" for your service to this country.
