Rinn helping Bryant to another big year
The Bryant nine is proving that the 2013 season was no fluke, and a key part of the Bulldogs success on the diamond this season is Warwick native Robby Rinn.
The sophomore first baseman has played in every game this season and has posted good offensive numbers for the defending Northeast Conference champions.
Rinn is batting at a .323 clip with eight doubles, a pair of home runs and 27 runs batted in for Bryant, which is on a nine-game winning streak and has emerged victorious in 14 of its last 15 contests.
Additionally, Rinn is also finding ways to get on base safely without putting the ball in play, having walked 27 times and getting hit by a team-high 12 pitches.
However, where Rinn has shined brightest for the Bulldogs is with the glove; his .992 fielding percentage is second on the club among players with at least 80 chances and just three percentage points off the pace.
The Bryant squad traveled to Maryland last weekend for a four-game set versus Mount St. Mary’s and continued its red-hot form, sweeping the Mountaineers and reaching the 30-win mark for the eighth season in a row.
During the series, Rinn went 4-for-14 with two runs scored and a run driven in as the 31-10 Bulldogs extended their lead at the top of the NEC standings to four games, having compiled an 11-1 mark in conference play.
Next up for Rinn and Bryant is a tilt against Northeastern on Wednesday – the team’s final non-conference contest of 2014 – before the Bulldogs return to conference affairs with a four-game series against second-place Sacred Heart this upcoming weekend.
