Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announces that the Rhode Island State Police will hold a Women in Policing Career Forum focusing on the recruitment of female applicants, including the retention and advancement of women troopers, on Tuesday, December 5 at 6 p.m. in the Career Development Center at Rhode Island College.
The event is open to everyone; however, the discussion will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities encountered by women pursuing a career as a Rhode Island State Trooper. It will also highlight the positive experiences of women currently serving with the Rhode Island State Police, showing how they use their talents and skills to serve their community in a positive, impactful manner.
The Women in Policing Career Forum is part of the ongoing recruitment efforts to attract a well-qualified, highly diverse pool of male and female applicants for the next State Police Training Academy, which is scheduled to begin in June 2018.
The event will feature a panel of female State Troopers who will provide information about a career with the Rhode Island State Police (i.e., work schedules, duties, opportunities for advancement, etc.). They also will discuss what it is like to work in a traditionally male-dominated occupation. In addition, they also will explain the application process, including the steps needed to prepare for the physical, mental and emotional demands of the State Police Training Academy. The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience and members of the State Police recruitment unit.
The Women in Policing Career Forum is free and open to the public. The event will be held in the Career Development Center, Room 117 of Roberts Hall, the main administration building at Rhode Island College, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence.
For more information on becoming a Rhode Island State Trooper or to apply for the next State Police Training Academy, please visit the Rhode Island State Police website. Applications are being accepted through December 27, 2017.
