Robert L. Mernick


Robert L. Mernick, 75, of Warwick, died April 10, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Mary C. (Quarnstrom) Mernick.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Callahan) Mernick, he lived in Warwick since 1958. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of Johnson &Wales College.

Mr. Mernick was a recreation supervisor for the City of Warwick for 27 years, retiring in December 1999. He was a former state director of the National Softball Association and a deputy commissioner of the Amateur Softball Association. He was a former board member of the Warwick Police Athletic League and an honorary member of the Warwick Figure Skaters.

He was the father of Paula Reynolds of Providence, Ellen Mernick of Woodside, Calif., Susan F. Mernick, John C. Mernick, Paul D. Mernick, James F. Mernick and Robert A. Mernick, all of Warwick, Peter A. Mernick of West Warwick, Mary E. “Liz” Burri of Columbus, Ohio and the late Jane Mernick Long; and brother of the late Joseph, Leonard and Edward Mernick. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held April 13 at 8 a.m. from Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Visiting hours are April 12 from 4-8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Please omit flowers.
