The staff at Avalon Nursing home are celebrating Clara Etchells’ birthday. She turns 100 today. Clara was born to Domenico Salerno and Silva DiLoia as Clara Assunta Salerno in Providence. Of Italian descent, Clara is a devout Catholic. In her later years she enjoyed walking to Federal Hill to go shopping, explaining that there were fish vendors on every corner. She is a widow and spent her life as a homemaker during her married years. Clara came to Avalon Nursing Home in Warwick in June 2007, where she continues to reside. The staff at Avalon Nursing home wanted to share Clara’s achievement of 100 years with the community. Pictured with Clara are Catrina Mulqueen, Margaret Jacques, Brittney Ayotte, Margaret Baker and Kaila Audet. (Warwick Beacon photo)
