A celebration of knowledge, persistence and a well-rounded education took place last Thursday at the State House as state lawmakers honored the high school seniors who were awarded gold medals at this year’s Rhode Island Academic Decathlon. Celebrating its 33 anniversary, the Decathlon is an after-school program that challenges high school students to master a demanding and broad curriculum while developing their writing, speech, interview and teamwork skills. Pictured from left are Joseph Murphy and Angela Crenshaw of Classical High School and Bishop Hendricken students Aidan Kendra, Nicolas Bassi, Ryan Brady, Christian Wells, Miles Temel, Nathan Tomasso, Riley Chabot and Peter Cienki. The students received scholarships from Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello and introduced to the House. Here, Rep. Eileen Naughton of Warwick congratulates them at a reception in the House Lounge.
