A supporter of academic excellence and achievement, AT&T stepped forward in June with a $6,000 donation to help underwrite the 2018 Rhode Island Academic Decathlon. This will be the 35th anniversary of the competition that is open to all the state’s high schools. This year, the Bishop Hendricken team won the state event and then went on to place first in its division in the national competition. Community and corporate support are critical to running the daylong event that is traditionally held at the Knight Campus of CCRI involving more than 250 students and more than 120 volunteers who serve as judges, proctors and aids. Pictured with Brooke M Thomson, Regional Vice President, External Affairs, AT&T Services Inc. are John Howell, president of the RI Academic Decathlon (left) and Senator Michael McCaffrey, who has been instrumental in raising funds to support the event.
