Keeping it local

Traditionally, Warwick Police have played an active role in the statewide Cops, Kids and Classroom drive to ensure that kids returning to school have the supplies they need. This year, the effort was targeted locally with a focus on Oakland Beach School. On Aug. 28, the day before the beginning of the school year, police and city officials including Mayor Joseph Solomon and Councilman Steve McAllister gathered with school principal Paul Heatherton for a group photograph with the 40 backpacks and school supplies collected during the drive. Heatherton distributed the donated items based on teacher recommendations and his knowledge of student needs. (Warwick Beacon photo)
