The wind was out of the south, but that didn’t mean it was warm. It was spitting big raindrops. Nonetheless, the message of Easter brought warmth to those who gathered Easter morning before 7 for the pageantry of the service sponsored jointly by the First Congregational Church of Warwick and St. Rita Church at Oakland Beach. Started about 30 years ago, the Easter lesson is a portrayal of Jesus revealing himself to the disciples after his resurrection by the Sea of Tiberias. Jesus calls to them to learn they have fished all night but caught nothing. He tells them where to cast their nets, and Simon Peter hauls in 153 fish, whereupon Jesus tells them to “come and have breakfast.” At that point in the service, children playing the roles of disciples pass baskets of bread and fish among those gathered. As they have done for years, Marcia Beagan joined by Debbie Puckett provided the music along with the First Congregational Church bell choir. Also participating were Pastor Warren Marble of First Congregational and Father Peter D’Ambrosia of St. Rita.
