The William Shields Post in Conimicut hosted a blood drive Wednesday in memory of Gianna Cirella, the Toll Gate student who died of sepsis on Nov. 1, 2017. Gianna’s girls soccer teammates – wearing Gianna’s favorite color purple – turned out to donate blood for the drive conducted by the Rhode Island Blood Center. Since Gianna’s death, blood drives in her memory have yielded 765 pints that in turn have helped 2,295 patients. Gianna’s mother, Tara, was one of the 48 who donated blood Wednesday. She is pictured here with Dylan Klegraefe of the Blood Center. Texas Road House was a co-sponsor of the drive with donations of food for the event. (Warwick Beacon photos)
