With the high work completed, scaffolding has been removed from City Council Chambers and painting and flooring crews are concentrating on completing renovations to the room following the rupture of a sprinkler head that soaked the floor causing it to buckle, damaged the plaster ceiling and caused the flaking of paint. The work, which included new gold leaf to columns and ornamental trim, is expected to be completed in another month and a half. Meanwhile, council meetings are being held in the police community room and, of late, City Hall workers are becoming accustomed to the hammering as new hardwood floors are nailed into place. State Rug and Warwick Floors is doing the flooring, Warwick Painting is doing the paintwork and C & L Builders is the general contractor. Insurance is covering the cost of the work at more than $500,000. (Warwick Beacon photos)
