CHEERING, 'HOT, HOT, HOT': While the temperatures hovered in the 90s, four groups of Police Athletic League cheerleaders ranging from 5 to 12 years old plus 12 coaches, 14 mothers and four student demonstrators took to the Gorton field for their daily practice. PAL football players would have also been practicing, but with all that equipment it just was too hot. Coordinated by Jessica Izzo, nearly 90 girls have been practicing since the first of August four times a week. The cheerleading teams compete locally and have the chance to advance to the states, regionals and then nationally. Here, the Mighty Mites practice a routine. Appropriately, the chant was, “We’re aiming for the top/solid as a rock we can’t be stopped/ because we’re hot, hot, hot.”

While the temperatures hovered in the 90s, four groups of Police Athletic League cheerleaders ranging from 5 to 12 years old plus 12 coaches, 14 mothers and four student demonstrators took to the Gorton field for their daily practice. PAL football players would have also been practicing, but with all that equipment it just was too hot. Coordinated by Jessica Izzo, nearly 90 girls have been practicing since the first of August four times a week.
