No Shave November for members of the Warwick Police Department came to a close Saturday night with a Christmas party and check presentation of $6,700 to Cops for Kids with Cancer at the FOP Hall. This is the second year Chief Stephen McCartney has waived the clean-shaven policy to allow officers to grow beards during November with a $50 contribution to the cause that has raised more than $6 million since being founded in 2002. The all-volunteer operated campaign provides $5,000 to families who have children battling cancer, no questions asked, explained Rita Foley, of the Cops for Kids with Cancer board. McCartney said he had qualms about permitting officers to grow beards, adding that now, “I can’t think of a better cause.” The beards came off after the party. Seen here are the party crew and Chief McCartney, Thomas Foley of the Cops for Kids with Cancer board and FOP president Jed Pineau. (Warwick Beacon photos)
