Their own to keep
Steve Hinger estimates it’s been at least 17 years since the Rotary Club of Warwick launched what has become known as the “dictionary project.” Hinger read of how dictionaries were given to all third graders in a North Carolina town and thought the Rotary Club could do that in Warwick. All third graders in Warwick public, parochial and private schools are given the dictionaries. The kids get to keep them, even writing their names in the covers. Undaunted that three elementary schools were closed because so many teachers had called in sick, the club went ahead and delivered the books to those schools that were open. They were back to cover the ones that were closed.
