20 raise $6,000 with plunge

Goddard Park beach was an entirely different Sunday than from New Year’s Day, the scheduled date of the 2018 Frozen Clam Dip and Obstaplunge sponsored by Laid-back Fitness to benefit Mentor Rhode Island.

On the first day of the year, temperatures hovered in the teens, the wind blew and Greenwich Bay was a sheet of ice from shore to shore. While the obstacle portion of the event was held Jan. 1, the plunge was rescheduled for Sunday.

It was a good move. Temperatures were in the 40s. There was no wind and, best of all, there was no ice, although the water was in the 30s. About 20 brave souls made the dash into the bay in support of mentoring. The two events raised about $6,000 for Mentor Rhode Island.
