The city’s Recreation Director James Scott said Wednesday that the dog park at City Park is slated to reopen today. Out of an abundance of caution the park closed Sept. 12 after a dog that frequented the park tested positive for Parvovirus. According to a Facebook post from Animal Shelter director Ann Corvin, “The fact is Parvo can be picked up anywhere dogs are, so any park, sidewalk etc. can potentially harbor the virus … the higher the concentration of dogs in an area the higher the risk. Therefore dog parks can be a petri dish for viruses.” She goes on to explain that no dog under the age of 6 months should be allowed in the park and that dogs that have been properly vaccinated are actively protected against Parvo. Scott said no other measures than closing the park have been taken. (Warwick Beacon photo)
