It was touch and go Saturday as to whether to cancel or go ahead with neighborhood Easter egg hunts. Conimicut and Riverview erred on the side of caution and, given the forecast of showers, canceled their hunts. But Ward 6 Councilwoman Donna Travis and Join Our Neighborhood and Help (JONAH) decided the hunt was on rain or shine. They lucked out and, shortly after 10:30 a.m., Warwick Police Cadets took to the playing fields at Oakland Beach School to spread out more than 3,300 plastic eggs filled with candy, with 185 of them marked for prizes. In addition, there were goodie bags, a raffle and hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on the spot by Lodge 2295 of the Knights of Columbus. And yes, the rain held off long enough for the full event. The turnout was thinner than years past, leaving those kids who participated bags packed with eggs.
