Warwick firefighters quickly doused a fire that started in a garage in the rear of the historic Caleb Greene Homestead at Apponaug Four Corners Tuesday night about 10:15. According to Assistant Chief James Kenney, firefighters had the fire under control in 15 minutes. He said no one was in the building at the time and smoke filled the house. There was no fire damage to the main building, built in 1800 that faces Centerville Road. Kenney said cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries. On Wednesday morning, windows in the house were open, but no one seemed to be around. (Warwick Beacon photo)

Thank you to the firefighters who saved this beautiful and historic home. It must not have been easy with all the congestion in that area and putting out the night-time fire in 15 minutes must be some kind of record. I own the Oliver Hazard Perry Home, also in Warwick. I purchased it in 2002 and ever since then, I have had a greater awareness and respect for these historical homes. They need to be protected and our firefighters did a great job of it. Caleb Greene would be impressed.
Happy Summer everyone
