A city crew was working to relocate a fire hydrant on Post Road in Apponaug as part of the circulator project when a valve on a 30-inch water main blew, sending a geyser that washed out the adjoining parking lot and sending mud and water onto nearby College Avenue. The break prompted an immediate drop in water pressure, which David Picozzi, director of public works, noticed as he was in the shower. He said his wife yelled to him that his phone “was exploding” with calls that he instantly attributed to the drop in water pressure. The valve was replaced and pressure restored in a couple of hours. It took longer to fill the washout and it will be even longer before everything is back in place. (Warwick Beacon photo)

I lived in Sarasota Florida for three and a half years so I am familiar with this kind of sight. There, it takes about four days to repair a water main. Picozzi and his crew did it in a couple of hours? WOW. Don't think we needed to know where Mr. Picozzi was at the time of the incident, but he got it repaired in record time. Well done.
Happy Summer everyone.

Mr. Corrente, who cares if he was in the shower? It adds a little personal color to the story and isn't what people would consider "TMI"; it's not as though he stated he was on the toilet.
You're right about the quick response, though- kudos to Warwick DPW/Water Dept. & Kent County Water.
