On the first weekend of the 15-day celebration of the Chinese New Year, a trio of dancing lions – all members of the Rhode Island Kung Fu Club visited Han Palace on West Shore Road Sunday afternoon. After an introductory dance to the beat of a drum and cymbals in the parking lot, the troupe paraded into the restaurant to the delight of patrons and staff. Han Palace owner Keith Lu has been hosting the celebration for years. The Kung Fu Club finds themselves in demand for the new year and will conduct 20 to 25 performances over the span of about three weeks. The show climaxed with one of the lions grabbing tangerines and a head of lettuce from a table outside the restaurant that, in a surprise move, he “gave back” to a patron. The show closes with the “tail partner” trading spots with the “head partner” to stand on his shoulders to the rhythmic beat of the drum and cymbals. (Warwick Beacon photos)
