On Wednesday, Mayor Joseph J. Solomon stopped by the Oakland Beach boat ramp, where Department of Public Works crews were clearing sand and other debris in anticipation of Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer. The ramp is a popular facility for boaters looking to enjoy the waters of Greenwich Bay and Warwick Cove. “Today’s cleanup is just part of our continued work to make sure that we are offering our residents and out-of-town guests top-notch facilities to enjoy,” said Solomon. Earlier this week, the mayor declared this week as Safe Boating Week in the city, joining a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the issue. The mayor today again encouraged boaters to take advantage of free vessel safety checks offered by the United States Coast Guard and the United States Power Squadrons.
