Although Mayor Scott Avedisian has joined talks and mediation sessions on a teacher contract are ongoing, the Warwick Teachers Union held another informational picket Wednesday in front of City Hall. Asked whether the action was aimed at the mayor, union President Darlene Netcoh said it “wasn’t a stick in the eye to Mayor Avedisian.” She said the picket had been scheduled to remind the public that teachers have been without a contract for nearly two years and that the School Committee and administrators continue to disregard the terms of the prior contract even though the union is seeking to abide by those terms. “All we ask is that they follow a contract,” she said. Speaking of Superintendent Philip Thornton, Netcoh said, “He has a three-year contract; would he be coming to work without one?” Netcoh said recent talks have given her optimism that an agreement can be reached, adding, “The mayor has been very helpful to the process.” The teachers got some unsolicited support from Teamsters Local 251, whose rig rolled through Apponaug blowing its horn in approval. Dear Scal1024,

Please read the above. The teachers deserve additional money because of the delay caused solely by the School Committee. Whatever their contract would have been if it was done in, say, 2 months, should be increased when it is delayed for 2 years.

Even you should agree with that Scal. Our quality of life in Warwick is greatly effected by our School Committee and Scal, this School Committee is harming that quality of life... and the taxpayers...and the teachers...and the parents...and mostly the students.

I applaud the Mayor for joining in the negotiations recently but maybe we should go back to the Mayor Walsh idea of locking them all in a room and not letting them out until we have a signed agreement. I almost think that should be the next step.

Frustrating as it is to us, can you imagine how it must feel to be a Warwick school teacher in these times.

    Happy Summer Warwick school teachers.

    Happy Summer everyone.

    Dear dummy,

THE CONTRACT HAS EXPIRED !!! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT??? IT HAS EXPIRED. ONLY IN RI DO WE ABIDE BY TERMS OF AN EXPIRED CONTRACT.

“All we ask is that they follow a contract,” THEY DONT HAVE A CONTRACT , IT IS EXPIRED. DO YOU STILL NOT GET THAT OR ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID?????

    Hello Thecaptain:

While I share your frustration with the tax cheat fake "mayor" and his fact-free perspective, I might humbly counsel some sort of relaxation exercise.

As you are already aware, the tax cheat fake "mayor" seems to consider evidence-based disprovals of his false claims to be some sort of perverse source for pride.

He will also no doubt use your reply to play the victim and blame you for yelling, despite his prior bullying behavior.

You will no doubt recall that I've made precisely the same point as you, that terms of the expired teachers' contract could not be extended past its expiration (in fact, as I have also noted repeatedly, a judge made this exact ruling), only to find the fake "mayor" continuing in his complete obliviousness to those facts.

Until the fake "mayor" corrects his clearly false assertions, everything else he says should be disregarded.

    Couldn't agree more.

Re: Expired contracts are invalid and irrelevant and the fraud "mayor" and WTU don't get that despite court rulings. And, the fake mayor concerns himself not with facts. I look forward to his loss in the next election, again.

According to the Warwick Schools.org, the core issues surrounding the WTU and WSC discord is about weighting, stainines, and co-op classes. However, further review of the facts show that both parties cannot agree on ANYTHING. At the heart of every negation is compromise.

I do not have any children in the Warwick Public School System any longer. I am simply a taxpayer that is getting really sick and tired of the back and forth that has seemed to be endless. It is a waste of time and money at this point. You may win a battle but you won't win the war. It is time for some very real and honest straight talk from both parties. If you aren't willing to negotiate then don't sit down at the table. Neither side is garnering any sympathy points at this stage in the game. Get it together people and stop with the grandstanding and egos.
