Ward 3 Councilman Timothy Howe vented his frustration at Monday night’s Council meeting over the long-standing condition on a section of Lakeshore Drive where a combination of water from wetlands on one side and Warwick Pond on the other has left the road submerged. Howe said despite promises from the Department of Public Works to address the situation nothing has happened and, in fact, residents took it upon themselves to dump gravel in a pothole obscured by the water. DPW Director David Picozzi said yesterday the city plans to proceed with a temporary fix by raising the roadbed. He said a lasting solution rests with opening Buckeye Brook so as to lower the pond level, an action being sought by the Friends of Warwick Ponds and the city. “The only thing we can do right now is to raise the road,” said Picozzi. He said materials have been acquired and he expects the project would be completed in a month. (Warwick Beacon photo)
