It wasn’t just chilly but a record cold for Thanksgiving as the thermometer plunged to 15 degrees. The polar blast was cause to reschedule high school football games but didn’t alter the Warwick Rotary Club’s annual 5K Turkey Trot at Warwick City Park that stepped off at 8 a.m. Runners and walkers emerged from the warmth of their cars to limber up before taking to the course. Just as quickly they were off, although finishing wasn’t that fast for some. The event, co-sponsored by Dave’s Market Place, Ocean State Job Lot, PuroClean and Greenwood Credit Union, will benefit the Westbay Community Action farm on Centerville Road that raised more than 22,000 pounds of produce this year for the Westbay Marketplace. The money will be used to purchase a lawn tractor.
