Kobi Dennis, a Democratic candidate for the Mayor of Providence, was one of the few who took a New Year’s Day plunge, only it was in a pool and he was in a suit. The Kent County YMCA planned to open its pool to plungers before the frigid weather forced the cancellation of Narragansett Bay dips at several locations in the state. And, as it turned out, it was the only place not to cancel. As for the suit, Kobi said he wore it because as a candidate people expect it. He did take off his shoes. Julie Casiniro, executive director, said the Y is waiving enrollment fees and pushing for new memberships. “We really want to promote our pool. We have a gorgeous facility here at Kent County Y. The pool is 84 degrees and it's just a beautiful, beautiful facility,” she said. (Warwick Beacon photo)
