Salute to small business


During yesterday’s 2012 Rhode Island Salute to Small Businesses, which took place at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston, 10 local small business owners earned awards for their hard work and dedication in the industry. The event was co-sponsored by the Small Business Administration and Score. Lauren Slocum, president and CEO of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, was named the Home Based Business Champion of the Year. Other award winners include Carolyn Rafaelian, president and CEO of Alex and Ani, Inc., who earned the title of Small Business Person of the Year; Nancy Langrall, policy director from the Office of Senator Jack Reed, who was earned the Rhode Island SBA District Director Award; Rob Armstrong, president of AB Munroe Daily, earned the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year for Rhode Island and New England; Miriam A. Ross, principal of the Law Offices of Miriam A. Ross, Esquire, won the Women in Business Champion of the Year Award for Rhode Island and New England; Richard Remeika and Jose Sanchez, owners of Bob and Timmy’s Grilled Pizza, earned the Joseph G.E. Knight Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence; Claudia Cornejo, business information specialist for the Office of the Rhode Island Secretary of State, was named the Minority Small Business Champion of the Year; Anthony Capuano Jr., senior vice president of Webster Bank, earned the award for Financial Service Champion of the Year; and Richard Ferro, principal of RLF Management Services, LLC, was named the Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year.
