(Ethereal murder mystery)

Things aren't always as they seem in this ethereal murder mystery that starts out with a bang and fizzles into an outrageous, unbelievable conclusion.

Joyce bought into the otherworldly atmosphere, while I wanted an approach to the mystery. The fact that she can't imagine Matthew McConaughey being in a turkey certainly affected her rating.

McConaughey plays Baker Dill, a fishing boat captain whose ex-wife (Anne Hathaway) begs him to murder her abusive husband by dumping him overboard on a fishing expedition. As the plot thickens, strange events occur that cloud his decision to kill the man (Jason Clarke).

The story gets very weird as Baker telepathically communicates with his son via computer, leading to a convoluted ending that I couldn't buy into.

Rated R for profanity, sex and violence.
