Warwick resident and United States Navy veteran Paul Kelly was honored by the Warwick City Council during their meeting Monday night with a resolution thanking him for his many years of dedicated service to the community. Following his graduation from Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence in 1958, Kelly enlisted in the Navy and eventually served aboard submarines, and was a member of the commissioning crew of the fleet battalion missile submarine U.S.S. Will Rogers. Following his honorable discharge in 1970, Kelly operated a TV servicing business and received a bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College in 1983. He has held teaching positions in Massachusetts, Washington D.C. as well as in Egypt, Nepal and the Philippines. He has served on numerous boards, including the Governor’s Commission on Veteran Affairs. He also serves as a Eucharist minister at St. Rose and Clements Parish. The resolution mentioned his marriage of 56 years to wife Elizabeth and their four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. “Therefore be it resolved the mayor and the Warwick City Council hereby honor Paul F. Kelly for his outstanding service and commitment to our community,” read Ward 6 Councilwoman Donna Travis. (Warwick Beacon photo)
