Shirley (Bland) McKinney, 77, of Rodney Road, died November 30, 2011 at home.

She was the daughter of the late William H. Bland and the late Hope E. (Hicks) Bland. She worked as a seamstress early on in her career and then in the jewelry industry for a number of years before retiring. She was a member of the Northern Narragansett Indian Tribe. Shirley, or Nesting Meadow (her native name) was a nurturer to many, an endless source of support and always ready and willing to listen.

She is survived by two sons, Joal Anderson of Providence and Gerald McKinney of Warwick; two daughters, Jacqueline McKinney and Tracy McKinney, both of Warwick; three brothers, Richard Bland of Providence, Darrell Bland of Tiverton and Curtis Bland of Bristol; two sisters, Barbara Eagle and Gloria Clayborne, both of Providence; two grandchildren, Emily and Gerald McKinney Jr.; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Anderson Jr., and siblings William H. Balnd III and Louise H. Wilcox.

Her funeral service and viewing was held Dec. 3 at Mt. Hope Community Baptist Church, 734 Hope St., Providence. Burial was in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Visit
