Singer Tyrell performs to benefit Providence Rotary


Grammy Award winner Steve Tyrell will be the headline performer at the Providence Rotary club’s second annual Jazz Fest on Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Rhode Island Performing Arts Center in Cranston.

Tyrell will bring his seven-piece band and their interpretations of pop standards to Rhode Island for one performance only.

Perhaps best known for “The Way You Look Tonight,” his romance-launching hits include “The Simple Life,” “Crush On You” and “The Sunny Side of The Street.” Tyrell has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world.

The Providence Rotary Jazz Fest benefits the Providence Rotary Charities Foundation, which supports local and international charities involving disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development.

The event opens with “Boss Saxes,” featuring Dan Moretti and Greg Abate, with Gary Johnson on drums, Tim Ray on piano and Dave Zinno on bass.

Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at, at the RI Performing Arts Center box office or by calling 467-7275. A VIP Reception at 6 p.m. will feature light refreshments and preferred seating. VIP admission is $75.
