Mayor Joseph J. Solomon recently announced details of the City’s Inaugural ceremonies, which will be held tonight, Jan. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza, 801 Greenwich Avenue in Warwick. The general public is cordially invited to attend.
Mayor Solomon will be sworn in by state Supreme Court Associate Justice Francis X. Flaherty while his wife, Cynthia, and son, state Representative Joseph J. Solomon, Jr. hold the Bible. Mayor Solomon will, in turn, administer the oath of office to City Councilors Richard K. Corley, Jeremy M. Rix, Timothy J. Howe, James W. McElroy, Edgar N. Ladouceur Donna M. Travis, Stephen P. McAllister, Anthony E. Sinapi and Steve Merolla as well as School Committee members Kyle D. Adams, Judith L. Cobden and Nathaniel L. Cornell.
Michael Solomon, former Providence City Council president, will offer welcoming remarks, and Milan Azar, Esquire, will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening. The Pawtuxet Rangers, R.I.M. and its Fife and Drum Corps will offer the prelude, and the Warwick Police and Fire Departments, along with the Rhode Island Firefighters Pipes and Drums will serve as honor guards.
Kasim Yarn, Director of Veteran Affairs for the State of Rhode Island, will lead the pledge of allegiance, followed by the singing of the national anthem by Captain William Tyler, a retired Warwick firefighter.
The invocation and benediction will be given by Father Edward Nedder, Pastor of Saint George Maronite Catholic Church in Cranston, and Father Robert Marciano, Pastor of Saint Kevin and Saint Benedict Churches, will give a prayer for public service. Sharon Kathleen Santos-Leonard will lead several musical selections. Mayor Solomon will offer remarks, and the City Council will elect its president and name committee assignments.
Mayor Solomon said that the reception following the inauguration will include a “Taste of Warwick,” featuring a sampling of signature items from a number of local restaurants. The Mayor noted that this will provide an opportunity to help promote the abilities of local chefs as well as the diverse menus available right here in Warwick.
