Special Olympics looking for unified basketball partners

Posted

Are you looking for a fun way to work out and help Special Olympics athletes improve their basketball skills at the same time? Consider volunteering as a unified partner in our Unified Basketball program.

Unified partners play on teams alongside Special Olympics athletes, providing them with a higher level of basketball competition as they teach them offensive and defensive skills and strategies. This popular program not only offers our athletes the fun of playing basketball, but also gives them the opportunity to experience meaningful inclusion and acceptance at the same time.

Several SORI teams are presently looking for unified partners for our program that will be held at Wheeler Farm in Seekonk on Wednesday nights starting in October. Games will be played at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on the following dates:

October 17, 24, 31; November 7, 14, 28; December 1 – Tournament at Providence College

Unified partners will also be required to attend a team practice during the week. The practice schedules and locations will vary depending upon the team.

Please contact Louise Miller (Louise@specialolympicsri.org) if you are interested in volunteering or if you'd like more information.

Many of our teams are also looking for volunteers to help with our swim programs throughout the state. Starting dates, locations and times of practices vary. If you are interested in learning about a program in your area, please contact Louise Miller (Louise @specialolympicsri.org).
