Spring ritual in the fall?

Posted

Boatyards hum with the sound of buffers and sanders in the spring, but usually at this time of year the ritual is that of buttoning up things for the winter. That wasn’t the case this weekend for Kristen Wenzel and her 44-foot Morgan, which should be going into the water this week. An accomplished sailor who has raced the Bermuda One-Two – a race from Newport to the island single-handed one direction and with two aboard the other way – Kristen will be sailing the boat to the Bahamas for the winter. The boat –Southern Yankee<– sails out of Wickford but is wintered and hauled for occasions like this at Pleasure Marina in Oakland Beach. (Warwick Beacon photos)
