St. Kevin students to shine bright in 'Beauty and the Beast'

Since January, Saint Kevin School music teacher Beverly Hopkins has been working hard putting together Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. The students have been practicing three days a week after school, in addition to a few Saturday rehearsals. Sandra Lebeau and her husband, Paul, who built pieces for the set, assisted Hopkins. Hopkins’ husband, Bryan painted the set. Their daughter Kelsey, who is the choreographer, also helped. Hendricken’s tech crew operates the sound and lights for the play, and some of the actors and actresses take on two roles by moving the props around on stage in between scenes.

Everyone is working together to make Saint Kevin’s 4th annual production a success.

“It is a wonderful experience for the children, something they will remember for the rest of their lives”, said Hopkins. In addition, she noted, “The plays give the children the opportunity to make new friends and build confidence.”

At the show, there will be light-up battery operated roses sold for $6. During the show, the audience will be able to wave the roses as the Beast gets transformed.
