Starzz to shine again for Proud to be an American on May 20

The annual veterans benefit, “Proud to be an American,” is going on its fifth year, this year to be held on May 20 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Quidnessett Country Club.

Local oldies group, Reminisce, will be returning for another year to entertain, along with Steven Quirini of Starzz Entertainment.

Quirini and his Starzz partner Lisa D’Ambra organize the annual benefit, along with Vin and Elly Palumbo of Palumbo’s Garage in Johnston. They were inspired to undertake this effort after bonding over their shared passion for helping veterans.

All of the money raised goes directly to support the needs of local residents who have served the nation in uniform, said D’Ambra. She added that 100 percent of the proceeds benefit veterans seeking services at the Providence VA Medical Center.

The event is open to the public; tickets are $42 per person, or $420 per table. This fee covers dinner, dancing, entertainment, and raffles, which include prizes donated from Godiva, Providence Coal Fired Pizza, Iggy’s Doughboys, PPAC, and many more. The deadline to purchase tickets is May 16. Those interested should call Lisa D’Ambra at 451-5500, or Vin Palumbo at 413-6320.

In past years this event has drawn hundreds of people, and has risen upwards of $38,000. Last year’s event raised a net record of $14,350.
