Steve Kass to head Big Brothers of RI
Radio Hall of Famer Steve Kass has been named executive director of Big Brothers of Rhode Island, announced Joseph Manera Jr. Esq., president of the Board.
Kass becomes the sixth person appointed to the position just as the organization begins to celebrate its 60-year history. Kass will head the organization that his father, George Katz, was first appointed to in 1952. Previously, Kass was a radio and TV talk show host for more than 30 years, and left the broadcast industry to become Governor Donald Carcieri’s director of communications from 2005 to 2008, then became the director of communications for the Rhode Island Emergency Management Association from 2008 to 2011.
Both the president of the board and the incoming executive director agreed on one critical issue: the need for the Big Brothers mission to provide a positive male role model to our state’s boys has never been greater.
Manera noted, “In 1952, during George Katz’s tenure in RI, the number of boys without a father was relatively small. The number of young boys not celebrating Father’s Days this year in RI is unprecedented.”
Kass will announce the revitalized association’s initial plans in the next few weeks.
