Tables turn at roast of RI comedian
Rhode Island comedians will get their chance to roast a correctional officer, as well as a local comedy icon, as he is inducted into the prestigious Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame.
John Perrotta, a Cranston native and resident, works by day at the ACI’s High Security Unit and by night in clubs and halls all over southern New England. Perrotta has been performing in and producing stand up comedy shows and giving young comics their first shot on stages for almost 20 years.
“John is an amazing comedian and his passion for the business is unshakeable,” says RI Comedy Hall of Fame Founder Rockin' Joe Hebert. “John can walk into a room with little or no prepared material and perform for an hour just ripping apart the crowd. He's the modern day Don Rickles. This roast is intended not only to praise him for his outstanding contributions to comedy in Rhode Island, but to get justice for all those who have been victims of his comedy act.”
On the roast dais will be some of the state’s best stand up comedians, with a special appearance by friend and boxing legend Vinny Pazienza.
“I work in a building that houses some of the state's most dangerous inmates, but walking into a roomful of stand up comedians who are ready to destroy me? That's real fear,” Perrotta quipped.
The Roast of John Perrotta will take place at DiParma's Italian Table in Seekonk, Mass., on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $25 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Call 461-7896 for information and reservations.
