(Mob movie with great stars)

The Avon has an exclusive on "The Irishman,” Martin Scorcese's mobster movie starring Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa and Robert DeNiro as hitman Frank Sheeran, and you only have through Thursday night at 7 p.m. to see it on the big screen. The  3½-hour movie then goes directly to Netflix.

The "fact-based" movie also stars Joe Pesci and, in a switch from his usual comedy roles, Ray Romano as the mob lawyer.

Any movie that starts and ends with the classic ’50s song "In the Still of the Night" has my attention, as the 3 ½ hours speed by, thanks to tremendous performances by the three main actors and smaller roles by Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel and Bobby Cannavale.

We find Sheeran, one of the few non-Italians in the mob, reminiscing about his life as he approaches death. He was a family man whose loyalties were to two families that often conflicted with each other, a true sociopath right to his last rights.

The scenes between DeNiro and Pacino are classic, and the story will keep you glued to the screen.

We witness Hoffa's rise and fall, all surrounded by television reports that cleverly tie historical events to the mob activities of the time. We learn not to be late if you have a meeting with Hoffa. We witness mob loyalty and disloyalty. And we are witness to an inside of Hoffa and the mob.

Rated a big R, with profanity and violence.
