It was rocking gospel music and free food Saturday as the Pawtuxet Baptist Church, founded in 1805, held its second annual The Rock in the Village concert. “It’s to let them know the church is alive and well,” Deacon Deb Boxser said of the event featuring several local bands known for their Christian music. Opening the concert was Basic Worship a group comprised of church members and directed by Ray Athaide. The Rev. Irving Scoby is pastor of the church whose steeple was a navigational landmark for sailing ships and bell was used to summon volunteer firefighters. About 50 members strong, the church is looking to expand its rolls and work in the community.
