Saturday’s rain and wind put a damper on the Boy Scouts’ “Scouting For Food” drive to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. As of Monday, the Food Bank reported receiving 83,000 pounds of food and was expecting to take in an additional 60,000 pounds from its agencies. In addition, the bank received 16,000 pounds of food from Ocean State Job Lot for a grand total of 160,000. Last year, the drive collected 180,000 pounds. Later Monday, the Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts reported a total of 270,827 pounds for the council that includes Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. In Warwick, scouts dropped off collections at St. Rose of Lima Church, which were then taken to Station One in Apponaug to be sorted and boxed for pickup by the food bank. The fire station on West Shore Road and Sandy Lane was also a drop-off location. After sorting, boxes were transported to the food bank by the RI National Guard.
