Thomas James McDonough, 70, of Levitt Lane died Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the MICU at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Donna (Fratus) McDonough.

Born September 6, 1947 in Providence he was the son of the late Thomas and Phyllis (Kubilius) McDonough. After attending Our Lady of Mercy and East Greenwich High School, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a volunteer fireman in East Greenwich. He worked for BIF for 19 years and then as a housekeeper at Butterfield Dining Hall at URI until retirement. Thomas was an avid quahogger, a skill he passed down to all his children. He had a love for music and for the New England Patriots. Above all, however, his family was the center of his universe. He was the most generous, warm-hearted and loving husband, father and grandfather who had a sense of humor everyone adored.

Aside from his wife, together for 44 years, he is survived by eight children: Roy McDonough of South Kingstown; Eric McDonough of Exeter; Robin Wilde (husband Michael) of Warwick; Amy Olson (husband Keith) of Foster; Diana McDonough-Anderson (husband Jason) of Warwick; Donna Virgulak (husband Scott) of Charlestown; Thomas J. “Tucker” McDonough (wife Brittani) of NH and Alexander McDonough of Exeter; fifteen grandchildren: Tylor, Melainy, Emma, James, Megan, Brittany, Lindsey, Nicholas, Bradin, Korbin, Callie, Alyssa, Zachary, Kendall and Kinley; three great-grandchildren: Jack, Jazmyne and William, and two brothers: Kevin McDonough of Green Hill, RI and Brendan McDonough of Greenfield, MA. He is predeceased by his grandson Benjamin Virgulak; great-granddaughter Leah Harrington and by his faithful friend, Guinness.

He was cared for at home by his loving wife and family with the support of Bayada Home Care. His family wishes to express a very special “Thank You” to the medical professionals in the MICU and from Bayada for their compassionate and excellent care.

A gathering in celebration of his life will be on Tuesday, May 15 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Please dress comfortably. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
