    Dear Justanidiot,

Respectfully, old friend I disagree with you about the teachers "works to rull". I can't imagine they were as anxious to "give it their best" when there was no contract in place. Would you? I wouldn't. But once they finally crossed that finish line I'm sure they felt more stable and human nature dictates that the teachers (and anyone else) would want to work harder from that day on. It should have happened two years ago. Warwick's reputation suffered badly during that time and our student population crashed. Remember that the Warwick Teachers Union was ALWAYS willing to "sit and negotiate". Also remember that for two full years, the Warwick School Committee and Mayor Avedisian refused. As Mayor I would never refuse to talk. Not necessarily agree, but at least talk. Communication is the key to finding a solution.

    Happy Spring Justanidiot.

    Happy Spring everyone.

Oh. My. God. You didn't just say that. If you are paid to do a job you do the best job you can do. If you can't do that then you don't belong in the profession. Aren't these the same people that continually talk about doing for the children?

They were being paid. They never went without pay. They issue was with raises and contractual issues. THEY WERE STILL GETTING PAID TO DO A JOB! The parents and students were the casualties because the parents are paying taxes but have no say and the students are, according to you, not getting the education they deserve because the teachers are unhappy about contract negotiations. Your solution: Communication. *knock the side of my head* Why didn't anyone think about that before?

Watching you is like sitting in the stands of a circus without a ring leader and the monkeys are running the joint.

    Dear Kammy,

Again, I find myself agreeing with your premise that the teachers are professionals and that as such they should ALWAYS strive to perform "the best job they can do." I just feel that "the best job they can do" is enhanced if they have the security of a signed contract. I know if it were me, I would feel more secure and it would probably show up in better production.

    Don't you?

And as far as "communication", no, I don't want to "knock the side of your head". You and I and the Warwick Teachers Union DO communicate. We don't always agree but we DO always communicate. I respect you for that. The School Committee and Mayor Avedisian, on the other hand, could have used a "communication-knock-on-the-side-of-the-head". It might have helped.

By the way, you've commented in the past about your children. Happy Mothers Day.

    Hello again Kammy:

Yes, the make-believe mayor really did say that he supports teachers who did not "give it their best" while they were getting paid to teach in the absence of a contract. He really did say that professional teachers should reduce their efforts while waiting for a new contract. He really did suggest that, despite Vincent Ragosta confirming 25 mediation meetings among the parties, the school committee and mayor "refused" to negotiate. He really did suggest communication as a solution after months of bashing the school committee and accusing them of "extortion," among other things -- and after the parties reached a final agreement by doing what? Communicating like adults and professionals.

As we know, the make-believe mayor is just continuing his unbroken streak of humiliating himself and desperately seeking attention that he thinks will help his sure-to-lose campaign. That he's getting attention for delusional and false statements, tax delinquencies, and pandering to the WTU doesn't seem to make a difference. That is a defect in his character, not anyone else's, and will again prove his failure as a candidate.

"I know if it were me, I would feel more secure and it would probably show up in better production. Don't you?"

I don't have that luxury. If I don't perform up to the goals and standards that have been placed on me by my employer then I will be fired. That is real life. There isn't a safety net of doing the bare minimum and still retaining a job. I call it theft of our tax dollars. If I don't perform then I face consequences but the difference is my salary isn't coming from the public. That is why they are held to a different standard. They are given the responsibility of teaching the children of the community and are paid by the citizens of the community.

The sick outs alone were the last straw. Parents were put in a bind and even more money came out of their pockets because they either had to stay at home or find a babysitter. UNACCEPTABLE. If they are not motivated enough to teach up to standard then they need to stop teaching in Warwick and go to another community. The median teachers salary in Warwick as of April 28, 2018 is between 51,000 - 67,000. The taxpayers and students deserve better than minimum effort until monetary compensation has been given that is acceptable to the union.

    Hello again Cat2222:

Thank you for providing yet another voice of reason [which the make-believe mayor will no doubt ignore before making more uninformed statements] about the WTU and its tactics.

As you rightly point out, Warwick's teachers are well compensated with the expectation that they will do their jobs -- and yet, in the absence of a contract, they went work-to-rule and engaged in many other tactics like the sick-outs that reflected poorly on them.

And in the end, they accepted the mediated contract [despite the WTU president saying previously they were going to take the arbitrators' decision] because it was the best deal they could get. The taxpayers [who the make-believe mayor falsely claims to represent] are considered little more than a revenue source by the WTU.
