The second-seeded Cranston East volleyball team erased an early deficit to beat No. 4 Toll Gate 3-1 in the Division II semifinals at Cranston West on Tuesday.

The Titans would grind out a 25-23 win in the first set to take and early 1-0 lead. However, East would rebound to take three straight sets and close out Toll Gate and punch its ticket to the state title game on Saturday afternoon at Johnson and Wales University.

The Bolts would cruise to a 25-19 win in a quick second set, followed by grinding out a 25-23 win in the third set to take the 2-1 lead. East would go on to close out the match, making quick work of the Titans with a 25-17 win in the final set.

This was the second time that these two clubs met this season, with Toll Gate earning an epic 3-2 win over the Bolts on their home court. It was the first time that Toll Gate ever beat Cranston East in Cranston.

The Titans finish the year at 12-6 while Cranston East improves to 15-3.

The Bolts will move on to the Division II state title game against to-seeded East Greenwich, who took home a 3-1 semifinal win over Pilgrim on Tuesday afternoon. Pilgrim concludes the season with a 13-6 overall record.

East Greenwich takes a perfect 17-0 record into Saturday’s state final and has topped East twice so far this season. East Greenwich took home 3-2 and 3-0 victories over the bolts. The opening serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
