The Rhode Island Building Officials Association, in conjunction with NETCOH Sales, DeWalt Tools and Simpson StrongTie Connectors presented 23 students from the Warwick Career Center (Construction), Woonsocket Vocational and Coventry Vocational with the annual "Tools of the Trades" Construction Scholarships. Presentations including remarks by Acting Mayor Joseph Solomon were made at the Tides Restaurant at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center Wednesday.

Tool scholarships are presented to graduating seniors who pass the International Code Council (ICC) building codes course.

Each student will receive over $350 of tools for their successful participation.

Wayne R. Pimental, CBO/CFM, Building & Zoning Official for the Town of South Kingstown served as master of ceremonies.

Solomon urged students to thank their instructors because “they have led you to where you are today.” He urged students to pursue their passion. “You are the future of tomorrow, you’ve got the world ahead of you.”

Many thanks to the sponsors (Rhode Island Building Officials Association and NETCOH Sales, DeWalt Tools, and Simpson StrongTie Connectors) for awarding over $350 worth of "tools of the trade" to each of these scholarship recipients. Your faith in our students will attract new taxpayers to Warwick, reducing the tax needs on the rest of us.

    Happy Summer everyone.

    Rick Corrente

This is really important considering how few young people are getting into trades. They are the backbone of our country and it is hard to watch so many walk away from the profession. Thanks to the sponsors for providing the scholarships!
