More than 20 of the majestic trees at Goddard Park, succumbing to age, the battering of storms and disease, are slated to come down this week. Work started Monday morning and, in short order, Northeastern Tree of Cranston had downed several trees and was well into grinding down the stumps. Steve Kidd, vice president of the company, estimated the trees to be 70 to 80 years old and older. Larger logs are being hauled from the park with the smaller limbs being chipped and stockpiled for use in the park. Arborists in DEM’s Division of Forest Environment evaluated the site and identified the trees that needed to be removed.
